Already Started on the Next Model

With having today off work, and being quite pleased with the result of the X-Wing, I thought I’d crack on with a “new” simple model.  Although I still have a Blood Claw on the go, and had started looking at my old Millennium Falcon again, I wanted a smaller model to chip away at too.  The one I chose was one I bought around 6 or 7 years ago from eBay; an old AMT/ERTL A-Wing.

Painting Progress

Although I’ve had a little painting time this week, mostly it’s been spent on practicing blending, glazing and feathering techniques on the Blood Claw.  This takes a while, and doesn’t show up well enough on camera, so I’ve not posted anything about it.  He’s very much turned into more of a test model.  I think there’s a small chance I may just figure out how to smooth out transitions better with a brush, which means I may relegate the airbrush down to undercoating and basecoats, but that may be getting well ahead of myself hahaha.

Picking Up Where Left Off Years Ago

A long time ago, not in a galaxy far, far away…

I bought a Millennium Falcon model from Amazon.  I opened the box with excitement, only to be hugely disappointed by what I found.  Flimsy plastic, poor sculpt quality, and worse; the most horrendous cockpit “detail” you could imagine.  In fact, it’s an insult to refer to the cockpit as having “detail”.

Sometimes Things Just Don’t Go to Plan

Well that hasn’t gone very well!

Started the morning wrestling with airbrush clogs, followed by clumsily applies shadows with a questionable colour choice.  I made up a 50:50 mix of Naggaroth Night and The Fang with a few drops of airbrush thinner, and applied this to some choice areas.  And by choice area, I mean splattering and spidering everywhere.

This is my own fault, too thin paint, too much paint at too high a pressure and too close to the model.  Yep, needless to say I wasn’t very happy.

Undercoating

Applies the undercoat via airbrush, using my usual zenithal highlighting approach.  As I’ve kept the model I’m sub assemblies, I made a conscious decision over where the light source was going to be and how the model would go together to get the light in the correct places.

I’ve not taken any work in progress shots at this stage, as there’s nothing too interesting about it.
