Hobby Aims and Goals 2019

Last year was pretty successful in that I painted more than I have done since returning to the hobby, and I managed to achieve a 7/10 average on a model on CoolMiniOrNot. This year, I’d like to continue building upon that progress, and complete more models, and try to push myself to produce a couple of models at a better standard.

To give myself some actual targets, I’ve come up with a number of key goals I want to achieve…

Miniature Completion Goals

My main aim this year is to paint more frequently, and complete more models. I’d like to complete more individual models than I did in 2018, but I’d like to strike a balance between quantity and quality.

I don’t want to set to many specific project goals, as I’d like to give myself the freedom to go with the flow and be able to pick up any projects I’m inspired by over the next 12 months.

Having said that, there are a handful of projects I do want to specifically work on, and that I wish to complete:

  • Finish the Fellowship of the Ring (three of the four hobbits are already done)
  • Complete a Necromunda Gang

Other Models

Alongside miniatures, I would also like to paint a few more regular models:

  • Complete my Tamiya Spitfire
  • Build and complete some of the Star Wars Bandai Vehicle Model Kits I have in my model stash

Painting Improvement

I’d like to stretch myself by producing a miniature that averages 8/10 or more on CoolMiniOrNot. That’s going to be a real challenge for me, as I nothing I’ve done has met that standard yet, and it’s going to take a real push to reach that level.

Boxed Games

I’d like to paint a full and complete boxed game this year, and I think the best place to start is the Zombicide Season 1 box set. I love the look of the miniatures as there’s so much character to them, even if the plastic used is the flexible kind (rather than hard styrene), and the detail is a little rough in places, and have duplicate sculpts in the set.

With boxed games, my target is to complete them to an appropriate “gaming standard” rather than focusing on painting to my very best level. I’ll probably spend a bit longer on the survivors and the abomination, but certainly the zombies will be painted simpler to get them completed – after all it’s the overall effect that I’m looking for with them.

Blogging and Social Media

This year, I’d like to be a little more organised and frequent in my blogging and social media posting. I’d like to blog once a week on Sunday summarising any hobby progress, and use Instagram and Twitter for posting quicker, more regular updates. That’ll keep my blogging frequent without becoming a burden, but will still enable me to engage with community.

That’s all quite a lot, but it’s something I think is achievable as long as I commit to it!
