Movie Review: Star Wars – The Last Jedi

Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

Star Wars!

It is a period of new Star Wars movies.  Big budget films are being released, starring new characters and old characters, in a continuation of the Star Wars universe.

Watching the new movie in IMAX at the Telford Cineworld with one of my best friends; another huge Star Wars fan (and movies lover generally), I signed off what was a great weekend with great company with a great movie, before taking the train back to Stafford…

That’s a really geeky opening to a really geeky blog post on a geeky site!  I think I’ve outdone myself with that.

I’ve been waiting a long time to watch this.  As part of my weekend with Moni, the second and last trip before returning home was a visit to the cinema to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  Obviously, you can tell from the blog name, and some of the hobby items, I am a huge Star Wars geek.  I’ve seen the all the films numerous times, and I could Empire Strikes Back as my absolute favourite movie of all time.

Given I have a tendency to prefer the second film of a trilogy (I like the darker, tone of a “second act”), I was really looking forward to this one.  Whereas I saw the Force Awakens twice, once with family shortly after release, and once on my own in an almost empty cinema, this time a I planned to see the movie with Moni, and the earliest we could get together was end of January.  I must admit it’s been tough to avoid spoilers but I did manage it, sadly there was no avoiding the negative vibes I was hearing.

Theatre Review: Hedda Gabler

Hedda Gabler at the Grand

I’m branching out a little he from my model building hobby posts, I’m not sure if this is something I’ll do too more of, I shall see!

As part of my “do something different” target this year, an opportunity cropped up to go to see a play with my best friend Moni and some of her pals at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.  I don’t know much about Theatre, but as soon as it was suggested, I signed up for the trip.

WIP: AMT/ERTL A-Wing Part 7

Two Updates in one Weekend

Yes, a minor miracle, two update in the same weekend!

Spent a few hours cleaning up the overspray and missed areas today with a hairy brush.  There was something really fun about removing the masking tape to reveal the White areas of the model, (mostly) untouched.  Things would have been a lot easier if I’d have sprayed the model in sub-assemblies, but live and learn eh?!

Excuses and Moaning

It’s been a really busy couple of weeks at work, and with the changes I’ve tried to make since the New Year, it’s been tough getting time in for hobbying.

This hasn’t stopped me watching season after season of GOT of course, but y’know how addictive that show is!
It’s not been a great week for me at work, I’ve been extremely stressed and not feeling particularly happy or satisfied with it – I have a good job, but sometimes the pressure and completely unreasonable deadlines on a large number of projects is just too much.  However this stuff is not what this blog is about, so I’ll leave it there.

I’m away next weekend, so I although I’m out this afternoon to see the guys and watch the footy, I knew I had to make at least some progress with the A-Wing, else I’m never going to make finish it.

Not Abducted, Just Busy

It’s been a busy start to the New Year at work as I expected, and things have got a little busier this week with another project also for the end of January that I need to manage.  That’s pretty much wiped out my intended painting efforts for the next few weeks!

Todays the first day in a couple of weeks that I’ve had to actually get any painting done at all, although last week I did do a little cleaning up of the A-Wing panel line scribing to get it ready for painting.

Hobby Year in Review 2017

Hobby Year Summary

This year was finally the year that I decided to push on and work on my hobbies.  A close friend of mine has significantly inspired me to focus on doing things that I WANT to do, above just doing the things that I feel I HAVE to do.

This was a big step for me from a personal development point of view, and this shift in mindset was critical to me getting going.

I thought now would be as good a time as any to make a quick note of the top 5 most important hobby things I’ve done this year.

FINISHED: Blood Claw

FINISHED: Blood Claw

Although really I could have cleaned up this one a little more, particularly on the Wolf Tail, I really wanted to say I’d completed this model before the end of the year.

I doubt I’ll get much painting done tomorrow or Sunday, so today was really the last chance to push him over the line.
