Hobby Year Summary
This year was finally the year that I decided to push on and work on my hobbies. A close friend of mine has significantly inspired me to focus on doing things that I WANT to do, above just doing the things that I feel I HAVE to do.
This was a big step for me from a personal development point of view, and this shift in mindset was critical to me getting going.
I thought now would be as good a time as any to make a quick note of the top 5 most important hobby things I’ve done this year.

FINISHED: Blood Claw
Although really I could have cleaned up this one a little more, particularly on the Wolf Tail, I really wanted to say I’d completed this model before the end of the year.
I doubt I’ll get much painting done tomorrow or Sunday, so today was really the last chance to push him over the line.

Christmas, Cockpits and Pilots
I had a really nice Christmas and Boxing Day, we ate out on Christmas day, and Boxing Day was spent at my parents. It’s been nice not having to cook for a few days!
The holiday festivities have died down now (although today is my birthday), so I had the chance to get a bit of painting in yesterday and today.

A little late, but the world goes on outside of hobbying and blogging.
Not much progress to report, on anything, I’ve mostly been enjoying the Christmas break, and spending time with family. The days fly by that’s for sure this way, but I did squeeze in some model work.

Attempting New Techniques
Not much painting time this week, but this weekend I did get a chance to move the Blood Claw along, taking the opportunity to try out a few more techniques I’ve note attempted before.
I also stuck him together at the end of the painting session, as now seemed to be as good a time as any.

Experimenting with Glazes and Layering
Decided to experiment a little with glazing on the Blood Claw. The original idea was to lay down basecoats and transitions with the airbrush, but I found it looked “too airbrushed” and crude, so by the time I broke out the brush, I couldn’t resist trying to glaze and layer.

Preparation and More Construction
Most of today’s work was related to preparation to the cockpit parts.

Already Started on the Next Model
With having today off work, and being quite pleased with the result of the X-Wing, I thought I’d crack on with a “new” simple model. Although I still have a Blood Claw on the go, and had started looking at my old Millennium Falcon again, I wanted a smaller model to chip away at too. The one I chose was one I bought around 6 or 7 years ago from eBay; an old AMT/ERTL A-Wing.

Although I’ve had a little painting time this week, mostly it’s been spent on practicing blending, glazing and feathering techniques on the Blood Claw. This takes a while, and doesn’t show up well enough on camera, so I’ve not posted anything about it. He’s very much turned into more of a test model. I think there’s a small chance I may just figure out how to smooth out transitions better with a brush, which means I may relegate the airbrush down to undercoating and basecoats, but that may be getting well ahead of myself hahaha.

Worked on my Bandai Poe Damerons X-Wing this evening.
This is one of Bandai’s “vehicle” models, this means there a box scale rather than a specific consistent scale of model, and they are really quite small – palm sized really.
